Oagata jinja

Second Shrine of Owari Province

Oagata Shrine stands in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture.
As the second-ranking shrine of Owari Province, it enshrines Oagata Okami, the ancestral deity who is said to have developed this land.

A stone Myojin torii stands as the first gate.
A purification trough is on the right, and a shrine office and worship hall flank the approach.
Behind the hall, the Saibunden, corridors extending east and west, and the main hall are located.
The Saibunden, a gabled structure resembling a four-pillar gate, was built in 1661 by Tokugawa Mitsutomo, the second lord of the Owari Domain.

The main hall consists of three combined structures called Oagata-zukuri: the Shojin Goten, Watariden, and Naien.
Before the 1661 reconstruction, records indicate a tripartite construction, suggesting the earlier presence of Oagata-zukuri.

The auxiliary shrine Hime no Miya is renowned for safe childbirth.
Like the main shrine, it has an inner shrine dedicated to the rough spirit on the mountain behind, with a small shrine.

At the far end of the shrine grounds is Daikoku Ebisu Shrine, dedicated to Okuninushi no Kami and Kotoshironushi no Kami.
It is rare to find a shrine enshrining both the ruler of Japan and the god of oracles together, as seen in other prefectures but uncommon in Nagano.
